FAQ

What does an axe throwing session look like?

Enjoy a cocktail or craft beer upon arrival. We will make introductions to your axe coach when your party has arrived.

Each axe throwing session is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Your axepert will first discuss safety, axe throwing techniques, and rules of the game. Each guest will be allowed a few practice throws and then the games begin!

How to throw an axe:

Step 1: Stance

If you’re right-handed place your left foot in front of the battle line and place your right foot behind the line with both toes pointed toward the target.

If you’re lefty, place your right foot north of the battle line and your right foot south of the divide.

Square your chest and hips to the target and make any slight adjustments needed to feel comfortable and confident in your stance.

Step 2: Gripping

Find a comfortable grip with your dominant hand along the axe handle somewhere between the belly and throat of the axe. The blade of the axe should be pointed down range toward the target.

Gently wrap your other hand around your gripping hand with both thumbs pointed up and adjacent to each other supporting the back of the handle.

With controlled effort draw the axe back over your head until the butt of the axe is resting in between your shoulder blades.

Step 3: Wielding of the Axe

Keeping your eyes on the target’s center, allow your core to shift your body weight to your front foot while allowing your arms to release and wield the axe over your head toward the moment of release. This happens quickly and in one continuous motion.

Release the axe with both hands near eye level and with your thumbs pointed up. Remember to keep your gaze fixed on the target’s bullseye. (Don’t overthink your release. Allow yourself some practice to find what works best for you.)
